Sonny’s Blues Summary
One of them, a fiddle-player named , seems particularly proud of Sonny and happy to see the narrator supporting him. The tone is melancholy and reminiscent. It follows the same essential structure: it begins with a lost and anxious man, follows two brothers growing together, and ends with a moment of redemption. He has held himself at a distance for too long. A new understanding is gained by him now about his own culture and community, the modifications in attitude and awareness that consequences in his reconnection with his society. The persistent nature of the streets lures adolescents to use drugs as a means of escaping the darkness of their lives. In the narrative present, the narrator is teaching a high school algebra class, and he reflects that many of the young men in the classroom are likely using drugs, too, because drugs bring relief from the rage they feel at knowing how few possibilities they have in their lives.
The narrator must first attempt to understand and make peace with his brother's drug use before he can extend his help and heart to him. Yet there is a sense that this darkness provides safety for Sonny, rather than menace. The last statement is what the narrator believes to be true. But when he actually wants to get out from the dangers, he could not anyhow, but only his music helped him to be escaped. Feeling compassion, the narrator hands him five dollars. The narrator is reminded of his own suffering and of his heritage. Kafka in the beginning first shows Gregor as a person we can all relate to.
His inclusion of gay themes resulted in a lot of savage criticism from the Black community. Through blues played by Sonny, he understands what actually taken place in Sonny's life as well as his own. The setting and time of the story also has great significance to the story. This hatred also is found in Sonny's mom she also suffers from the harshness of life in Harlem and she know that Sonny feels this suffering strongly than anyone else. The first thing we will do to read an article usually read the title. From the plot, Sonny may fail in being the titular character. This turned out not to be the case and the narrator did not pay much attention to his brother's goals as well as doings.
One theme shows how music can promote change and understanding within relationships. The purpose of this discussion is. Sonny draws the parallel between the sense of control that music and drugs give him, which evokes the control that the narrator desperately seeks through creating order with his job and family. At the end of this conversation, Sonny invites the narrator to come hear him play at a club that night. But the man who creates the music is hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits the air. I think it just like the people who talk in front of me. At this instance, the members are engulfed in grief on a Sunday afternoon that is characterized by the encroachment of the darkness of the night.
There are several themes in the narrative: difficulties for young black males in Harlem, issues with escaping the ghetto and make a living and the complex relationship between Sonny and his unnamed brother. The younger brother, Sonny, knows he has to escape Harlem to live the kind of life he wants. I think the reason for this short fiction wrote successful is great in portray the character and story details. Sonny, who is the ostensible character in this story, seems to play a larger role in the naming of this story. Significantly, the narrator is no longer judging them for this, but rather admiring their generosity in sacrificing parts of themselves in order to guide others through the darkness of their lives and bring whatever relief they can.

The characters in the story are from the same place, raised by the same people, and taught the same things, but they are different in the brain and heart, which makes their journey to salvation very different trips. Baldwin's description of the performance gives a great account of what it means to be an authentic jazz musician. The narrator feels like a failure for allowing them to grow up that way, and also for not having a safer place to bring Sonny to recover from his addiction. Establishing and maintaining a certain identity mostly depends on the setting.
Like me, sometimes I watch a news title which is interested me then I will choose to read it. The narrator cannot be redeemed until he reconnects with his family and with his wider heritage; aspiring to assimilate into white systems of control has not alleviated his suffering. The narrator, having to make a promise to their mother before her death, was to take care and watch over his young brother Sonny no matter what. Sonny, the younger of the two, is portrayed as a troubled young adult who desperately tries to get out of the negative environment that threatens to destroy his dream of becoming a musician. Sonny continues to talk about the universal nature of suffering and the ways drugs and music have helped him cope.
The narrator suddenly realizes that he's in Sonny's world now. What makes a mother or father continue to clothe, feed, and pick up their child from school. Sonny feels constrained on a bunch of levels, and we think this is a pretty common thing to face as young adults. The plebeian masses were mainly illiterate and because of this music was one of the only sources of entertainment that they had at their disposal. The narrator not only gives us thorough information, but displays major themes as the story changes roles. The two African American brothers share a life similar to that of their father and his brother. The second theme that the author illustrates is the theme of irony.
