I had to read The Outsiders for class and had the option of reading That Was Then, This is Now for an assignment, which I decided to do since The Outsiders is great and I'll probably never read this book if I don't now. I admit to shedding many a tear over this book. The real small summary was that a boy named Mark lives with Byron and Byron's mom.
Bryon's growing up, spending a lot of time with girls, and thinking seriously about who he wants to be. The character furthers the plot by being trusted with everything he had come to the end they were both betrayed. Of course, the frankness and bold honesty over the years h It really is amazing to me that this author, a female, can get into the head of a male teenager, to such a degree that she so completely reveals his thoughts, his actions, his justifications, his excuses, etc. If there is a choice of file format, which format is better to download? But I was not satisfi I read this so long ago I don't remember everything that happened throughout very clearly. It was great to see cameos of the characters from The Outsiders. There's drug use to the point of brain damage.
Both were intelligent, got good grades, were from the poor side of town scraping to make ends meet, and clearly had good morals; pretty much. But there's not much reason to read this novel. It is a story about friendship, loyalty, and mostly how the difference between right and wrong is subjective. Modern smartphones and computers can read files of any format. I think I've read The Outsiders at least 6 times but strangely I've never read any other of Hinton's books until now.
I like more, but Ms. She was pleased to see the reappearance of Ponyboy, but would have liked to have seen a bit more of him. It doesn't help that the plot is so meandering and flimsy. This is a coming of age story about two best friends, and what happens to them when they start to mature and grow apart. And all of this stuff is happening with 13-16 year-olds. He begins to realize that although Mark is his brother that he is a bad influence. I read this so long ago I don't remember everything that happened throughout very clearly. Does any of this make sense? The heartbreak was still there when I reached the end, but it was a memory of the original heartbreak. You know what I'd love right now? This one had an overall sadness that didn't hit me as hard, but I'm pretty sure I read this in high school, but it was basically all brand new for me this time around. Whenever something ends sadly, people say it's realistic, but happy endings exist in real life, and would it kill authors to put one in every now and then? Well, I think it's bullshit. Mark learns that just because you may be close with someone in the past that they can change to be completely different people later on. And I'm pissed about it.
